Hello, and welcome to Between the Pages!
As a librarian, I see a lot of books go through our doors, and (un?) fortunately, my self-control to not check them all out is pretty much nonexistent. I've been historically- well, terrible- at keeping track at what I read and why I read it. I track things via Goodreads religiously, but rarely have taken the time to really sit down and reflect on whatever book I completed. This year I started off by keeping a physical journal of my reads along with a short review about the book. I've enjoyed this process so much I figured "why not move it online?"
I'm under no illusion that I will be my only reader, but that's fine. This is a way for me to really be more mindful about what I'm reading and really reflect on why I read it. Plus it's fun to get back to some casual writing again, especially since I'm paying to keep this website up anyway.
This year I have the goal to read 150 books, usually whatever happens to strike my fancy. So far this year, as of April 30, I have completed 60 books. That leaves me in a bit of a quandry- do I go back and create posts for all the 60 books I've read this year so far? Do I just move forward with the ones I'm going to read from here on out?
I figured the best compromise was to spend my time reviewing the books that I really, really enjoyed here up until April 30. As of May 1, I'm hoping to start reviewing all the books I read. My reviews will be pretty casual. Some will be short. Most will not be 'proper' reviews, with plots and little blurbs, because I like to think that information is pretty easily accessible, and for my purpose, I want to remember how the book made me feel, not what it's about.
Anyway, that's it, that's all. Time to get reading!
